About the Journey

Get ready to work hard and play hard on this multifaceted journey to serve with our partner Sowing a Vision in southeastern Mexico’s largest city, Mérida. 

Sowing a Vision serves churches and other Christian organizations in Mérida by helping them with both construction projects and community outreach. That means this journey team will have the chance to get their hands dirty in two very different ways—mixing cement at a worksite and doing arts and crafts with local kids!

You’ll work alongside fellow global(x) teammates—and perhaps one of our long-term missionaries—on tasks like:

• Helping with at least one large construction project (e.g., building roofs or floors).
• Hauling materials like beams, sand, gravel, cement, and blocks.
• Completing smaller projects like painting.
• Hosting Vacation Bible School for local children.
• Playing games and sports, singing, dancing, and helping with arts and crafts.
• Meeting local families and learning about everyday life in Mérida.

While the projects you contribute to will help the community, the goal of this journey is relational investment in the people you’ll meet. Through Vacation Bible School and other community outreach activities, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with local children and families. And as you work alongside others at the project site, you’ll get to know community members and local church leaders. Our mission is to share God’s love with them all.

This journey is a great fit for adults who…

• Are willing and physically able to complete strenuous labor in very hot conditions. 
• Have a heart for kids and are ready to play, lead games, and be a little silly.
• Speak Spanish or have construction experience or skills, although not required.
• Want to contribute to tangible projects and connect relationally with new friends.

Before You Apply

• A nonrefundable application fee of $150 per person is due at the time of application and will be applied toward each person's fundraising goal.
• Seat selection or upgrades on flights are OPTIONAL. Some airlines may not assign seats until 7 days before departure; participants who wish to secure a preferred seat in advance may do so at their own expense.
