About the Journey

Get ready for an unforgettable, inspiring week of offering extravagant acts of service to families who have lost a child to cancer. 

Through our partnership with Lighthouse Family Retreat, this journey team will serve families who have been invited to spend a week at the beach on Bald Head Island, North Carolina, resting and reconnecting. As part of this team, you’ll have the unique opportunity to set the stage for these families as they make fresh, new memories together. You’ll get to breathe life into a difficult situation as they restore and heal alongside other families walking down a similar road.

As you consider serving, there is often an understandable concern that it will be a sad and hard retreat. Whenever we choose to move towards people as they grieve, there are hard moments. However, joy is still very present and a part of these retreats. Our Sunrise retreats are filled with space for new memories, room for reconnecting, and lots of fun and happy moments. The retreats can hold a place for both tears and laughter.  

You and your other family member(s) will be paired with a Sunrise Retreat Family, and you’ll serve by doing things like:

• Helping with laundry, dishes, and other care needs.
• Playing with the kids at Lighthouse activities like arts and crafts and pool time.
• Creating opportunities for Retreat Families to reconnect with one another during meals and free time.
• Making memories and having fun!

While the tasks you help with will contribute to a restful week for the Retreat Families, the goal of this journey is relational investment in the children and families you’ll meet. The loss of a child impacts everyone in a family. You’ll have the opportunity to ease that burden as you create a magical few days for them to have fun, reconnect with one another, experience joy, laughter, and kindness, and find hope in God.

Before You Apply

• A nonrefundable application fee of $150 per person is due at the time of application and will be applied toward each person's fundraising goal.
• The cost listed is PER PERSON.
• Minors will need a parent or guardian to help complete the Releases section of the application.
• A SEPARATE application is required for EACH family member who would like to participate.
