Mission Trip to Costa Rica - Our Story

My son Andrew and I are about to go on our first Mission Trip together! That said, I was fortunate enough to have participated in several Mission Trips before he was born. On each previous trip I found that my eyes were opened to specific ways God was working in other parts of the world.

My first "eye opener" was that many people in the places I visited were much less fortunate (materially) than I was. However, at each location when I got out and met "the locals," I found that many of them who knew Christ were more joyful than most of the folks I know in the U.S. That was especially impactful as every trip I've been on has been to what we would call "third world" countries. Understanding that people without much "stuff" seem A LOT happier than people with a lot of "stuff" (specifically when those people know God) changed my perspective on a lot of things!

Another thing that hit me hard was realizing that I had certain resources that I should be sharing with my brothers and sisters in Christ who were in need mainly because of where they were born. Each of the mission trips I've participated in focused on building things (schools, church building's, etc.) and teaching children that God loves them and has a plan for all of us. I love doing both of those things, as does Andrew! This trip will be similar but in a new location!

Since the time Andrew was old enough, I've told him about some of the things I learned and experienced on past Mission Trips to other countries. However, if you've ever done anything like this, you know that words cannot compare to "experiencing" what God teaches us when we step out on faith. That is especially true when you believe He's calling you to do something. Our church Northpoint Community Church has organized a trip to Costa Rica in mid-June for middle school kids and one of their parents. Fortunately, Andrew was more than ready to sign up when I asked him about going! Also, since then we've found that a few of his buddies and their dads signed up too!

I am honestly looking forward to this more than I have looked forward to anything in a long time! I would therefore, consider it an honor and a blessing if you would consider partnering with us by praying for everything about this trip and (if led to) by making a donation to help us fund our part in the trip. I'm expecting big things to come from this and cannot wait to let you know what God has in store for us between now and our trip in June! Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Yours in Him,

Jeff & Andrew Pettit
